Electrical installations at home – What can I do myself?
It's common to wonder what electrical work you're actually allowed to do yourself – and for good reason. Electricity should never be taken lightly, and having the right knowledge is essential for both safety and functionality.

The general rule is that most electrical installations must be carried out by a registered electrician. This is not only for your safety, but also to ensure that everything works correctly over time. Attempting electrical work without the proper skills can be extremely dangerous – it may cause fires, serious injury, or even fatal.
There are a few simple tasks you are allowed to do yourself – but only if you’re absolutely sure how to do them safely. This includes things like changing a light bulb or replacing a blown fuse. If you’re even slightly unsure, always contact a professional.
At Markslöjd, we offer many products that are safe and easy to install yourself – such as plug-in lighting or battery-powered lamps. However, for fixed installations like downlights, a certified electrician must always be hired.
If you’re unsure about what applies to your product or your home – just ask us. We’re happy to help!
